Optometrist - Job description

Full-time / Part-time – Permanent position

As part of the Patrick & Menzies team you will have the opportunity to work across all four of our North Essex branches, in Braintree, Brightlingsea, Mersea and Manningtree.

About the Role 

Our full-time optometrist position is equivalent to 37 hours over Monday to Saturday, with one variable day off each week as well as Sunday. We are open to flexible working and both part and full-time applicants will be considered for this post. 

We like to work in a relaxed environment with no sales pressure. As well as investing in our team, we also invest in technology. All of our branches use OCT, and at Braintree we also have Optomap. These are included in our private eye examination, and we organise regular CET events through our lens partner, Nikon.  

We believe it is important for you to have the time you need to carry out each examination, so most examinations are given at least 40 minutes (at the moment we are working at 50 minutes in light of Covid-19 restrictions). 

 About You 

As a qualified Optometrist you will provide the highest standard of care for our patients, truly listening to their concerns and providing a top-quality, professional service. You will be able to offer reassurance and understanding. 

You will work well as part of a team, building positive relationships with colleagues and patients alike. 

You will be keen to continue to develop your knowledge in your field, offering patients the most up to date care. 

Benefits of working for P&M 

 All of our professional team benefit from five weeks holiday, plus bank holidays and no Sunday working. Your professional fees will be paid, and you will automatically be enrolled into our pension scheme. We also provide four weeks sick pay. 

Patrick & Menzies are also part of local enhanced services – Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS) and Post-Operative Cataract Service (POCS).  

As well as benefiting from fully funded professional fees, you will also be given the time, support and professional freedom to provide the best care for your patients.

At Patrick & Menzies we use Nikon as our preferred lens supplier as well as Rodenstock. Nikon also provide regular CET events and lab tours.

Dispensing Optician/Practice Manager

Dispensing Optician/Practice Manager - Job Description

Full-time (35 hours per week) Permanent position 

As part of the Patrick & Menzies team you will principally be responsible for our practice in the seaside town of Brightlingsea.

A Bit About the Role 

We open 9 to 5 Monday to Saturday, closing for lunch 1 -2. Saturdays would be required so you would have a day off during the week. We don’t open Sundays or Bank Holidays. As a qualified Dispensing Optician, you will use your professional knowledge and experience primarily to look after our loyal and well-established patient base, working closely with our resident optometrist. As the manager you will also be responsible for looking after most things to do with the practice and a team of 4 (3 Optical Assistants and 1 optometrist). 

About You 

Our branches are based at the heart of the community and Brightlingsea is typical of that. It’s a small practice and has a great, tight knit team that work really well together. We would love someone who has a friendly and caring attitude, builds rapport, and who fits our team perfectly; continuing to build our loyal and growing patient base.

Your professional fees (ABDO and GOC) will be fully paid for, all of our professional team benefit from five weeks holiday plus bank holidays with no Sunday working. You will automatically be enrolled into our pension scheme and will be eligible for four weeks sick pay.  

We like to give time to our patients to do the best job we can, so we always aim for as stress-free time as possible, currently our testing times are 50 mins. At Patrick & Menzies we use Nikon as our preferred lens supplier as well as Rodenstock. Nikon also provide regular CET events and lab tours.

Important Information

Although the mandatory requirement to wear masks is lifted from the 19th July, our practices will NOT be changing our policy on mask wearing.

All our team will be wearing masks to protect you and we will still require all our patients to wear a mask to visit the practices. This is to protect us, and other patients who are often elderly and vulnerable.

If you have a legitimate exemption, please let us know in advance so we can arrange your visit to the practice safely.

Please do not attend if you feel unwell and have developed any of the symptoms of Covid-19, or if you have been in contact with anyone who has.
