Retinal Imaging

What is Digital Retinal Photography?

This is a system which allows us to take a photograph of the back of the eye; the important central retinal area.

How Will That Benefit Me?

The central retinal area plays an extremely important role in maintaining the quality of your vision. For this reason it is important that any problems are picked up at the earliest possible stage, before they affect your vision. Digital Photography allows for a far more detailed inspection of the central retina and also, because the images are stored on computer, comparisons can be made from visit to visit. The photographs are instant, so if you want, you can see what the optometrist sees.

How does it work?

The procedure takes a few moments, is entirely painless, and is no different in sensation to having a normal photograph taken. To see an interactive demonstration click on the link below.

Who Should Have Retinal Photographs Taken?

Certain factors increase the risk of eye problems. If you are in a higher risk group, it is even more important that you include retinal photography as part of your eye examination. Find out more >>>
