MODERN TECHNOLOGY LEADS TO RISK OF SHORT-SIGHTEDNESS
Gavin Rebello, Director, Patrick and Menzies, has been called upon by the national body for independent opticians, Eye Love Local, to help with their campaign to raise awareness about the effects of modern technology on eyes. He has recently helped with their media relations campaign to spread the word nationwide.
It is believed that people in the UK spend seven hours a day watching TV, surfing the net and using their mobile phones, and there are concerns that our obsession with hi-tech devices is leading to growing cases of short-sightedness.
Gavin is keen to point out that it’s not just use of the computer, he says: “A day spent working at a computer is often interrupted by texting a friend from your smartphone, followed by an evening spent playing a video game, or soon, watching your favourite programme on a 3D television.
