Should my employer pay for the
eye examination?

The European Directive states that if you use a VDU for 'most' of your job, then your employer should pay for a regular eye examination. If it is found that you need a prescription specifically for the screen, then they should contribute towards these spectacles. You should check your company's policy with personnel or health and safety.
