Spectacle Lenses

Lenses are not always equal. Many factors will influence how well a lens works. Manufacturers design the lenses with differing materials, curvatures and thickness.

This influences cosmetic appearance, weight, and clarity through the lens (particularly the peripheral vision).

These factors are all inter-related, so improving one aspect of a lens (light weight), may mean using a different material, which can have a detrimental effect on another aspect (reduced peripheral clarity).

Better quality lenses achieve a better balance between all these variables. Our independence means that we can source lenses to suit your visual demands and your budget.

Why so many choices?
There is no one perfect lens, the approriate lens will depend on your individual requirements and prescription.

All dispensing staff at Patrick and Menzies are professionally qualified dispensing opticians, and so are trained to help select the best lens for your needs.

They will run through the advantages and disadvantages of the options available and demonstrate how the lens works, before you choose.

Frames

Frames now come in a multitude of shapes, sizes, colours and materials. The style you wear can have a dramatic effect on your overall appearance. (click for styles)

The fit of the frame is crucial. A poor fitting frame or misaligned lenses will significantly reduce clarity and peripheral vision – two critical factors for driving for example.

Our qualified dispensing opticians will take a number of measurements to ensure comfortable and accurate frame fitting. With general wear, some frames may work loose – as part of our service, on-going frame refitting is complimentary for all spectacles supplied by us.

We stock high profile designer frames from cutting edge fashion houses, contemporary and classic styles as well standard frames to suit the economy budget.

Are all frames the same?
Frames can be made from a number of materials. The choice of material used gives the frame certain qualities.

stronger
hypoallergenic

Our dispensing opticians can provide you with more information.

More Than Just a Frame -
They are in effect a part of your face. An identifying feature of your persona. They make a statement about you just as much as your choice of clothing or jewellery. This is particularly so, if you wear spectacles all day, every day.

Because they are such an important part of you, we have professionally qualified dispensing opticians to advise you on style, materials, suitability for your prescription. They will make sure the frame fits you and is comfortable.

After Service
On collection of your spectacles, we will ensure that the frames are adjusted to fit comfortably, but the service does not stop there. You should pop in now and again so that we can check the fitting of the frames. This service is free of charge for all spectacles supplied by us for the lifetime of the frame.

All our frames come with a 1 year guarantee.

Your frames are an important part of you, consult a professionally qualified dispensing optician not a shop assistant.

Available as photochromic (a itnt that adapts to the conditions; some versions change quicker and go darker than others) or sunspecs (with or without prescription, polarised or non-polarised).

High quality tints will improve visual comfort, reducing glare and improving vision as well as reducing tension around the eyes and forehead.
